When a UFA player (aged 27 or older) is traded and their current contract length is shorter than the agreed-upon threshold value, their contract will automatically extend to match this threshold. This prevents the player from becoming unprotected shortly after the trade.
Previously, contracts extended under these rules included a clause prohibiting the player from being traded again until the end of their contract. This clause is now removed for all newly acquired players, effective immediately.
