 U20 Srbija WC72+ roster planning

Dear comrades!

Every season I'm working as our U20 coach I see the same situation:

Serbia has good amount of talented 17's, coming out form Youth schools and Drafts (I mean Quality=90-100 and Potential=76-94)
If most of them will get high ice-time in clubs with 200+ Training bases, we can have very strong U20 team on every WC!
Strong enough to be competitive at U20 Elite level and, at once, to become WC medalists! Not only U20, but even a senior WC;)

BUT!

At the same time we have some very serious problems every season:

1) Only about 40-50% of our talented 17's get high ice-time (25-30 min/game) in their clubs (and, often, not in Srbija)
2) As I see, our managers don't scout well their Youth School/Draft choices and, as a result, high Q/P players don't receive intense training bonuses or these bonuses are given to less talented players
3) Our managers often change their YS/Draft players' talent incorrectly and, as a result, for example, we have a lot of defenders with shooting skills which are almost useless for this position.
4) We are not planning our future U20 roster and, for example, we have too much defenders and only few good wingers/centers in every U20 generation.

We have not so many active managers in our Community, but we have some advantages over others which we must use:

1) we have a good pool of managers with Training bases 200+
2) we have only 3 club leagues and, as a result, we can give higher experience to our youngsters, than other nations with 5+ club leagues (the higher is league level - the higher is experience multiplier)
3) our managers can (if they want) give high ice-time to their U20 players without risk of falling down to the bottom leagues:
a) remember, that we have only 3 of them
b) 1-2 young players with high ice-time can not affect seriously your clubs' results
4) you have dedicated U20 coach, who is ready to work hard for the glory of Srbija U20! ;)

Seahawk

To resolve these problems and to make strong U20/future senior NT we should follow these advices (every one of us!):

1) Use your scout efforts/draft choices wisely!
What I mean:
a) scout well your Youth school/league draft to know for sure draft players' Q/P.
It is known, that players' real numbers in Q/P can not be more than +/-25% from approximate ones!

As we are searching for Q=90+/Pot=76+ players for future U20/senior NT rosters (Q=86 at least if Potential is good), it is no sense in scouting YS/Draft players with:

Approximate Quality less than = 88%*0,75 = 66
So, don't scout players with Quality=65 and lower
Only if you didn't find good players among those with approximate Q=66+ you can do it, but it is almost unreal situation

b) Try to find high Q/P players for U20 generation first!
Scout first of all those players' who will be 20 years old in U20 WC seasons!

WC72 roster reserves: 17 y.o. in 69 season, 16 y.o. in 68 season, 15 y.o. in 67 season
WC74 roster reserves: 17 y.o. in 71 season, 16 y.o. in 70, 15 y.o. in 69
WC76 roster reserves: 17 y.o. in 73 season, 16 y.o. in 72, 15 y.o. in 71
etc.

U20 generation players receive extra trainings and experience in U20 games and, as a result, they have higher chances to become senior NT Srbija players in future!

3) Change your players' talent wisely!

First of all - send your YS/Draft player data o U20 coach to consider his talent changing
Then use this rule (Talent--> effective new talent shift):

Strength --> Defense, Passing
Shooting --> Attack, Speed
Attack --> Shooting, Passing, Speed
Passing --> Attack (but better - don't change, good starting passing is very rare and valuable skill)
Defense --> Strength, Passing
Speed ---> don't change (rare and valuable skill)
Goalkeeping --> don't change (we have only 2-3 good goalkeepers in every generation)

Seahawk

4) If you have Q=90+/Pot=max-2+ player in your YS/Draft choice, give him intense training course without any hesitation.
But! Only 2 times (+12 skills in aggregate)
After 2 times of intense training every next one will bring only +1 skill, so, it is better to use them for other players.

5) Give your Q=90+/P=max-3+ players full ice-time in your club (25+ min/game in all games, better - 30+ min/game).
If you are not ready to give him max ice-time, or you have low Training base (less than 180) - sell this player at the very beginning of the season, when he is 17 years old.
You will get then good transfer money for clubs' development and our U20 will get a chance to find a new foreign club for him with 200+ Training base, because all clubs with high TB, who are going to grow up future NT players, are searching for this kind of youngsters at the first 2 weeks of the season, when they are 17 years old.
After that period, usually, they spend all their transfer money and fill their rosters and, later, we have much more less chances to find a good club for our talents!

6) Pull your talented players from Youth school at the very beginning of season, when they are 17 years old.
When player is sitting in YS, he is getting only +24 skills every season he is there (it happens when game database is updating for a new season).
So, it is no sense in keeping your players in YS until 18-19 years old- just pull them as soon, as they are 17 y.o., because he will train much more skills in your club

7) Obligatory! Inform your U20 coach about your talented player before you've pulled him from YS!
It will help to consider this players starting talent changing (if needed) and will help our U20 coach to plan our future reserves in all positions (G, W, C. D)

And, finally, I would like to present you some examples of 17 y.o. players skills growth dynamics so that you can see what is the difference between players with high ice-time, low ice-time and bench trained players.
These numbers are calculated many seasons before, they are pretty correct and are practically approved in all top national HA teams / clubs.
Attention! Average ice-time means, that your player is participating in all your clubs' games, not only in some of them!
Injuries and U20 games trainings are not applied.

Quality/ Training base level/ Average ice-time in 17-20 years : Average season skill growth in 17-19 years/ Average skill growth in 20-23 years / Overall skill growth in 17-20 years (don't forget to surplus players' starting skills;)

Q=90 / TB=200/ 30+ min : + 46 skills per season / + 37 skills per season / +175 trained skills in 17-20 years
Q=90 / TB=200/ 20+ min : + 43 skills per season / + 34 skills per season / +163 skills in 17-20 years
Q=90 / TB=200/ 10+ min : + 40 skills per season / + 32 skills per season / +152 skills in 17-20 years

Q=90 / TB=250/ 30+ min : + 54 skills per season / + 43 skills per season / +205 skills in 17-20 years
Q=90 / TB=250/ 20+ min : + 50 skills per season / + 40 skills per season / +190 skills in 17-20 years
Q=90 / TB=250/ 10+ min : + 47 skills per season / + 37 skills per season / +178 skills in 17-20 years

Q=100 / TB=200/ 30+ min : + 48 skills per season / + 39 skills per season / +183 skills in 17-20 years
Q=100 / TB=200/ 20+ min : + 45 skills per season / + 36 skills per season / +171 skills in 17-20 years
Q=100 / TB=200/ 10+ min : + 42 skills per season / + 34 skills per season / +160 skills in 17-20 years

Q=100 / TB=250/ 30+ min : + 56 skills per season / + 45 skills per season / +213 skills in 17-20 years
Q=100 / TB=250/ 20+ min : + 53 skills per season / + 42 skills per season / +201 skills in 17-20 years
Q=100 / TB=250/ 10+ min : + 49 skills per season / + 39 skills per season / +186 skills in 17-20 years

Bench trainings are even more less and give no experience, so, it is not a U20 roster case;)

For example, you can see these players from our WC68 roster :

Q=100, TB=230, max ice-time from 17 years:
http://www.hockeyarena.net/ru/index.php?p=public_player_info.inc&id=38524245

Q=100, TB=250, max ice-time from 17 years (too much injuries):
http://www.hockeyarena.net/ru/index.php?p=public_player_info.inc&id=38531004

And from WC70 future roster:

Q=97, TB=240, max ice-time now:
http://www.hockeyarena.net/ru/index.php?p=public_player_info.inc&id=38886609

Q=100, TB=220 , max ice-time now:
http://www.hockeyarena.net/ru/index.php?p=public_player_info.inc&player_id=38892772

P.S.
I can send Excel file with this calculator to every Serbian manager, who are interested. Just send me your email by personal message

It is clear, that these like players have 500+ mln transfer value when they are 20 y.o. (with Q=95+/pot=max-1+ = 800+ mln).
Their transfer value at the very beginning of 17 y.o. is about 200+ mln (depends on Q/P/loyalty), but if they are not playing, their transfer value at 18 y.o. age will not be more than 20-50 mln, so, it is profitable:

1) to give them high ice-time
2) to sell them right after YS/Draft if you can not play them

And here we have another one big problem: many Serbian managers don't play well and don't sell their talented youngsters....
So, they are loosing their money and our U20 is loosing its reserves.

As a result, we have only 10-15 players in WC68 and WC70 rosters, who are ready to play against strong opponents and only 5-6 players generally, who can be called top-level youngsters.

As soon as we will begin to follow these simple rules in our work with youngsters, our U20 will be a strong team, that can compete for WC medals!

One more useful tip;)

How to give your talented player maximum ice-time?

To do it, you should follow these rules:

1) play strictly 3 lines, not 4(!)

2) Use these lines time distribution:

65/55/45
60/45/45
60/60/40
30/30/50 (need 4th line that goes out at 0 minute)
30/40/50 (need 4th line that goes out at 0 minute)

Of course, you youngsters MUST play in line with max ice-time

3) Use only 1 Power Play and 1 Penalty Killing line!*
Of course, you youngsters MUST play in PP+PK

*you can use 2PP+1PK or 1PP+2PK lines in those cases, when you need to rise your players' energy

4) Don't use "Hack and Slash" or "High" aggressiveness level to avoid too much injuries

5) Try to avoid High or Average game importance to avoid injuries

6) Watch you players' energy! Don't let it go down to low! 95%-100% level is ok.
If energy level goes down, give you player less time in friendlies (25+ min) and max time in official games (30+).
Official games (Championship, Cup, Playoff/Play-out) give max level of trainings/experience, while friendly games trainings are much more lower.

7) Train players' self control skill first (20+ level in 17 years is good) to avoid too much penalties (and lower ice-time as a result)*
* 15+ self control to keepers - to stop them loosing their confidence

8) Try to hold your Rehabilitation center/Training base at the same level (250/250, 200/200 etc) to help your talents in restoring their energy at max level after every game.

It is only about 2 weeks left till the end of the current season!
I hope every active Serbian manager has already scouted his draft/youth school players;)
Please, don't forget to send me information about your draft/youth school 16's, so that we can plan our U20 roster in 69-72 seasons beforehand!

Draft is over.
Please,send me your drafted players' info!
(current 16 y.o. players of course,who will be 17 y.o. in 69 season)

Seahawk

Dear comrades!

I'm rebuilding my club from 69 season, so I'm searching for young players, who will be 17 y.o. in 69 season to give them max ice-time (my Training base/Rehab will be 200+/200+).
Of course, I will prefer to find Serbian players to grow up them for our U20 teams;)
So, if you have current 16 y.o. player in your Youth school or Drafted with Quality=90+ and Potential=94-100, and you are not ready to give him max time (or you have low level Training base) - send me please info about such players

We can discuss players' transfer and our U20 will get guaranteed high skilled players at WC72.
(My dream is Serbian 5 + keeper:)

Seahawk

Serbian 17 y.o. goalkeeper is on transfer list!

Guaranteed U20 player if will play as #1 keeper in his club at 17-20 years

Seahawk
00:18:15, 05.05.17

Now I've updated almost all our current 17 y.o. database (who will play at WC72) and I must say, that this generation is VERY poor :(
No top Quality/Potential/Skills players and amount of perspective players is almost twice smaller, than in previous seasons...
This mean, that if we will not give this generation high ice-time in our clubs, we will get a VERY weak U20 at WC72 and, I'm afraid, that our best dream there will be not to relegate back to 2nd division...

So, I would like to ask all our 17's managers - give them please as much ice-time, as you can, even if they don't have good potential.
This generations' situation is bad and if we will not play it well, we will have have big problems in 72 season!
