does nationality of the youth player indicate anything or is it totally random? I thought you only pull players of your "league country"

Now you have small chance to pull also another nationality in your YS

It should be that way, but I think it's not... I got Czech player in my B team in Spain... But yes, idea is good, it should he like that, that more managers country has, less players from this country they should be getting, and instead they should get more players from other countries with much less managers.
